In 1984, SIR was born, founded by Eng. Luciano Passoni, with the aim of creating industrial-type robotic lines and cells tailored to customers. The company's production focuses on non-standardized solutions, as each automation problem requires a specific and customized approach. The design of new lines or robotic cells often starts from scratch, both from a mechanical and an electronic point of view. In this period, the advanced anthropomorphic robot called Tomcat is introduced.
Between the years 1995 and 1997, the company stood out for the reinvention of established applications by introducing new innovative solutions.
These innovations result in numerous patents and allow the introduction of robotics in previously unexplored sectors.
Some examples include intelligent adaptive compensations, also applied to spindles, machining modules and technology cell developed in an environmentally sustainable way.
In addition, a first a proprietary two-dimensional vision system is being developed which allows SIR robots to safely locate and accurately pick up elements in 2D condition
Between 2004 and 2007, SIR established a collaboration with the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia for advanced research projects promoted by the European Community.
During this period, SIR revises and reinvents the traditional rigid assembly lines, developing the idea of a chain of robots to automate the various stages of production.
In the period between 2010 and 2013, the company develops non-contact systems, equipped with advanced sensors, for the control and automatic inspection of manufactured products.
Furthermore, SIR is involved in the Food & Beverage sector, patenting an innovative picking system for heterogeneous items.
In year 2015, the company expands thanks to the entry into the WAM and Wolong groups,
opening up new perspectives and ensuring constant growth both in Italy and in China and in the rest of the world.
Between 2017 and 2018, SIR went through an internationalization process,
going from 90% of national turnover to 70% of foreign turnover, reaching an income record.
In the period between 2020 and 2023, SIR also expands its focus on the e-mobility and new energy sectors, which have developed significantly in recent years.
In addition, the company increases its existing presence and structure in the U.S. and initiates a process of internal and external reorganization of the Modena headquarter to support the company's steady growth.
